Prep time: 45-60 minutes
Cook time: 2-3 minutes per batch
Materials:
- 2 cups flour (additional needed for dusting)
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 3 tbsp. sugar
- 2 tbsp. unsalted butter (softened at room temperature)
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tbsp. vanilla extract
- Zest of 1 lemon
- Zest of 1 small orange
- 1 tsp orange juice
- 2/3 cups honey
- Sprinkles
- 2-3 cups neutral oil
Process:
- In a bowl of a standing mixer add in the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, lemon zest and orange zest. Mix well.
- Add in the unsalted butter, eggs, vanilla and orange juice. Mix using a dough hook attachment until the dough has come together.
- Remove from the bowl and place on a lightly floured surface and pull the dough together into a disc using your hands.
- Cover with some plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Take the dough out and separate into 8 equal pieces.
- Taking one piece at a time roll out like a string about 14-16 inches long.
- Cut each strand into 16-18 pieces.
- Take each little piece and roll into a ball. Place on a lightly floured baking sheet lined with some parchment paper.
- Continue to do this until all the dough is rolled out.
- In a medium sized sauce pan add in the oil.
- Let the oil heat up and then lower the heat to medium.
- Working in batches add in the dough balls cooking for 2-3 minutes or until the balls are golden brown.
- Remove using a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel lined plate. Once done place in a large mixing bowl.
- In a small sauce pan add in the honey and heat up on low heat until runny.
- Pour over the fried balls and place on a plate or platter.
- Sprinkle with your favorite sprinkles and ENJOY!
