Puff Pastry Apple Danish

Prep time: 15-20 minutes

Cook time: 30-35 minutes

Materials:

  • 6 apples (I used McIntosh) peeled and chopped into cubes
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tbsp. corn starch mixed with 1 tbsp. cold water
  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 1 egg mixed with 1 tbsp. cold water

Glaze Materials:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp. heavy whipping cream

Process:

  1. In a medium sized sauce pan add in the chopped apples, sugar, salt, cinnamon and lemon juice.
  2. Cook over medium/high heat stirring often until the apples soften (about 8-10 minutes).
  3. In a small mixing dish add in corn starch and cold water. Mix well to make a watery paste.
  4. Pour the mixture into the apples and stir until the juices thicken, about 1-2 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  6. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Remove the sheet of puff pastry and place directly into your baking sheet.
  8. Pour the apple mixture into the puff pastry leaving about 1 1/2 inches on either side empty (watch video for visual).
  9. Taking a knife or pizza cutter start to make diagonal slits into the sides of the puff pastry (the part with no apple filling). Make sure you make the same amount of slits on both sides.
  10. Start to crisscross the slits over the apple mixture (again watch video for visual).
  11. Combine 1 egg with cold water and brush over the pastry.
  12. Bake for – minutes or until pastry is completely cooked through. Remove and let cool completely.
  13. Once cooled combine the powdered sugar and heavy whipping cream. Once the mixture is pourable, pour over the top of the baked pastry.
  14. Cut into desired pieces, plate and ENJOY!
