Ground Turkey Sloppy Joes

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 30-40 minutes

Materials:

  • 1 lb. ground turkey
  • 1 green pepper chopped
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 4-5 garlic cloves diced
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • ½ tbsp. ketchup
  • ½ tsp distilled white vinegar
  • ½ tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 3-4 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Rolls of your choice

Process:

  1. In a medium sized mixing bowl add in the brown sugar, ketchup, vinegar, soy sauce, yellow mustard and tomato sauce. Mix well and set aside.
  2. In a skillet with high sides or medium sized dutch oven add in the vegetable oil.
  3. Add in the ground turkey and cook, breaking the turkey up and stirring often. 
  4. Season with salt and pepper and once fully cooked through, add in the onion and pepper. 
  5. Cook for several minutes stirring often until the onion is translucent and fully cooked through.
  6. Add in the garlic and cook until fragrant.
  7. Pour the sauce in and mix well. 
  8. Reduce the heat to low and let simmer for 10-15 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  9. Let sit for a few minutes, place on your favorite rolls and ENJOY!
