Apple/ Pumpkin Turnover

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cook time: 10-15 minutes for apple mixture (baking time will vary depending on puff pastry)

Materials:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 1 cup pumpkin purée
  • 3 apples cubed
  • 1 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar separated in half
  • 1 tbsp. cinnamon separated in half
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg separated in half
  • 1 egg

Process:

  1. Preheat the oven to instructions on the puff pastry box, and line a baking sheet with some parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. In a small mixing bowl add in the pumpkin puree, 1/4 cup of sugar, 1/2 tbsp. cinnamon and 1/4 tsp nutmeg. Mix well and set aside.
  3. In a medium sized skilled add in the unsalted butter.
  4. Keeping the heat on medium/high let the butter melt. Once melted add in the apples and mix to coat them in the butter.
  5. Into the pan add in the remainder of the sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well and cook 5-10 minutes stirring often, until apples are softened. Set aside.
  6. Softly flour a clean work surface and roll out your puff pastry. Cut the pastry into 4 equal rectangles (or whichever size and shaped you’d like).
  7. Place 1/4 of the pumpkin mixture on one side of the puff pastry (watch video for visual) and top the pumpkin with 1/4 of the apple mixture.
  8. Fold the dough over the pumpkin and apple mixture and seal the edges.
  9. Place the pastries on the baking sheet.
  10. Make a slit into the center of each pastry.
  11. Take an egg and add in 1 tbsp. of cold water. Mix well and taking a pastry brush or your fingers, brush the top and sides of each pastry.
  12. Sprinkle with some additional sugar (optional) and bake following the instructions on the puff pastry box.
  13. Let cool and ENJOY!
