Prep time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 40-45 minutes
Materials:
- 4 large eggs at room temperature separated
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted and cooled
- 2 cups whole milk warmed
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp. vanilla sugar (or vanilla extract)
- 2 tbsp. hot water
- 1 cup flour
- Pinch of salt
- Additional powdered sugar for dusting
Process:
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F and line a square or round cake pan with some parchment paper and grease with some unsalted butter or cooking spray.
- Into the bowl of your egg whites add in a pinch of salt. Using a hand held mixer whip the egg yolks until soft peaks start to appear.
- Add in the granulated sugar and continue to mix until you start to get stiff peaks. Set aside.
- Into the bowl of your egg yolks add in the powdered sugar. Using the same mixer mix until the mixture is fluffy and pale in color.
- Add in the vanilla sugar (or vanilla extract) and mix to combine.
- Add in the melted butter and hot water. Mix well.
- Add in the flour and mix to incorporate.
- Gradually start to add in the milk and mix until fully incorporated.
- Start to fold in the egg whites being careful not to deflate the egg whites.
- Pour the mixture into your prepared cake pan and bake for 40-45 minutes.
- Let the cake cool completely and dust with powdered sugar.
- Cut and ENJOY!
