Apple Turnover

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 30-35 minutes

Materials:

  • 1 large sheet puff pastry
  • 4 large Gala apples (cubed)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp orange zest
  • Egg wash (1 egg & 1tbsp. cold water)
  • Cane sugar for topping (optional)

Process:

  1. In a medium sauce pan add in the cubed apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice and orange zest.
  2. Keeping the heat on medium/high cook the apple mixture 6-8 minutes, or until the apples have softened slightly.
  3. Set apples aside to cool slightly.
  4. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F and line a large baking sheet with some parchment paper.
  5. Divide your puff pastry sheet into 8 equal rectangles/squares.
  6. Divide the apple filling among the puff pastry squares, placing a dallop of the filling in the middle of each piece.
  7. Taking to opposing corners bring the dough into the center to meet (watch video for visual) and pinch gently to close.
  8. Gently brush the exposed dough with your egg wash and sprinkle with a pinch of cane sugar.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, tenting the turnovers with some aluminum foil if they tops are browning too quickly.
  10. Let cool and ENJOY!
