Prep time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 1 hour 45 minutes- 2 hours
Materials:
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 2 large onions
- 3 garlic cloves
- 16-18 oz. of mushrooms
- 2 cups of white rice (before cooking)
- Vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup of water
Process:
- In a large skillet add in the vegetable oil. Keeping the heat on medium high add in the onions. Season with salt and cook for a few minutes, stirring often until onions are cooked through.
- Add in the garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Add in the mushrooms and continue to cook until mushrooms are fully cooked through.
- Season with salt and pepper and set aside.
- Cook your rice according to package instructions and once fully cooked through add in the onion/ mushroom mixture. Mix well and season to taste. Set aside.
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
- Remove the core of the cabbage (watch video for visual) and place into salted boiling water.
- Once the leaves start to peel off take them out of the water and place them into a clean bowl.
- Once all boiled take a small knife and remove the hard vein of the cabbage (again watch video for visual).
- Holding the cabbage leaf in your palm scoop in about 1/2 cup (this will vary depending on size of cabbage leaf) of the filling. Roll the cabbage to cover the filling tucking the edges in, and place in a baking sheet.
- Pour in 1 cup of water into the baking sheet and cover the golombki with remaining leaves.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 90 minutes.
- Let sit for 15-20 minutes, plate and ENJOY!
