Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 20-23 minutes
Materials:
- 4 cups flour sifted
- 1/2 ounce fresh yeast or 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 1/4 cup warm milk
- 3 tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1 egg for egg wash
Process:
- In a mixing bowl or cup add in the warm milk, fresh yeast and sugar. Mix well and set aside for 5-6 minutes.
- In a bowl of a standing mixer with a dough hook attachment add in the flour, salt, sour cream, vegetable oil and the milk and yeast mixture. Knead the dough for 5-8 minutes on medium until the dough is smooth and has come together nicely.
- Cover with a clean kitchen towel and put in a warm place to rise until it’s doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
- Flour a clean work surface and place the risen dough on the flour. Roll the dough out into a log and separate into 5 pieces.
- Taking one piece at a time roll the piece out into a log about 12″-14″ long. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Place in warm place to rise while your oven preheats to 380 degrees F.
- Crack your egg into a clean dish and whisk to combine the yolk with the egg whites.
- Once the oven preheats and the dough has risen slightly wash the baguettes with the egg wash. You can also top with anything you’d like at this point (I like mine plain).
- Bake 20-23 minutes or until golden and fully cooked through. Set aside to cool and ENJOY!
